What makes the right tutor?
We know that our students and our parents both have important needs when it comes to finding the right tutor, both in and out of the lesson.
For our students - the ones in the lessons - we know it’s important that a tutor creates a positive learning environment and builds confidence and trust, showing that it’s okay to make mistakes! They should share knowledge with engaging and energetic enthusiasm for their subjects, and act as a good mentor.
For our parents - who take charge outside of the lessons - we know that what’s important is getting the best for your student. That means a tutor with the experience and qualifications to inspire you with confidence, a tutor that can adapt for your student and demonstrate professionalism to build trust, a tutor who will share feedback to keep you in the loop and show you the value in every lesson.
Whilst all of these skills are a must for all our tutors, we also understand that there will always be that tutor who is an even better match for guiding your student to the results they want - whether that’s a higher grade or increased confidence in their abilities! That’s why, as well as doing what we can to make sure all of our tutors are the best they can be, we seek to really understand the individual needs of each of our students, and tailor to those needs in every step of our process.
What do we do?
-
We only move forwards with applications from qualified teachers or tutors with 2+ years of relevant tutoring experience and a valid DBS.
Successful applicants have a telephone and video interview, during which we learn about their experience and teaching styles, and we start getting to know their personalities too! This allows us to make sure that they embody the variety of skills we’re looking for, and helps us make the best, tailored tutor recommendation for our students.
All of this means that currently only 1 in 13 of our applicants go on to become tutors with us!
-
It’s not enough that we work with tutors who are already great, we also want to make sure we’re helping our tutors internally to meet the needs of our families. That’s why we provide each of our tutors with our Tutor Handbook, which is full of trusted resources, so we can feel confident that every lesson they deliver is in line with our and our families’ expectations.
Our tutors also have access to our EB Training Hub, full of training resources such as clips of great tutoring in action. Plus, our team is always working on more resources to help both our tutors and our students bridge the gaps in their learning together.
-
We start by getting to know our tutors, then we get to know our students! Our initial call is all about understanding the individual needs and long term goals of each of our students, and how we can fit into those.
We use this understanding to recommend the tutor we think will be the right person to support them in achieving their long-term goals. Then, we arrange an initial evaluation lesson so that student and tutor can see each other in action and share valuable feedback before starting their learning journey together.
One Tree Planted Partnership
We don’t just want to have a positive impact on our students’ learning, we also want to have a lasting positive impact on our planet! That’s why we have partnered with One Tree Planted, and committed to planting one tree for each new student that we bring on. Read about One Tree Planted’s mission and ethos here, and follow us on Instagram or Facebook to follow our planting journey!
We also started our Earth Month fundraiser for our partners, and invited our tutors and our students and families to join us in donating to plant trees around the world! Visit our fundraising page today and make a difference to our planet!
Birthday Lessons
We love giving back to our students at EduBridge! That’s why each of our students gets a free Birthday Lesson from us each year. So they can spend even more time with their tutor, working towards their goals!
